Erik ten Hag revealed that Mason Mount could return to action for Manchester United in time to face Burnley.

The Red Devils take on Vincent Kompany's side on Saturday looking to build upon a win over Sheffield United. United twice came from behind to record a 4-2 victory after goals from Harry Maguire and Rasmus Hojlund in addition to a Bruno Fernandes brace.

Ten Hag's side endured another dramatic match after scraping past Coventry City on penalties in the FA Cup semi-finals and will now look to extend a four-match unbeaten run. Their efforts could be boosted by the return of Mount.

The former Chelsea midfielder has made just 17 appearances since arriving at Old Trafford in a £55million deal. The 25-year-old recently returned from a lengthy calf injury but has since missed the 13-times Premier League champions' last two games.

Ten Hag is hopeful of Mount's return this weekend but does not expect any reinforcements in his backline with Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane and Willy Kambwala all sidelined. The Dutchman was cautious in his update.

"No, not yet. We have to be patient for it," he told BBC's Match of the Day. "For coming back for the game against Burnley, I don't expect [them]. Mason Mount, he will return, I think."

With no returning defenders, it appears that Casemiro is set to start in the centre of defence for the third match in a row against the Clarets. The Brazilian has partnered Maguire in the heart of United's backline across the last two games.

That period has seen the Red Devils concede five goals with the former Real Madrid star featuring out of position. The 32-year-old's manager is happy with what Casemiro offers however.

Ten Hag is pleased with the balance his defensive pairing offers currently. “I think he’s a very good centre-back, together with Harry," said the ex-Ajax boss, "Very stable in and out of possession.”

United currently sit sixth in the Premier League, three points clear of Newcastle below them with five matches of the season remaining. The Red Devils are seven points behind Tottenham who currently sit in the Europa League qualification spot in fifth.
