Denmark have struck an agreement with Manchester United to limit Rasmus Hojlund's game time, boss Kasper Hjulmand has confirmed.

The striker only returned for the Red Devils during last weekend’s FA Cup victory against Liverpool at Old Trafford. He had been suffering with a muscle injury before starting against the Reds.

Hojlund, 21, was taken off after 70 minutes. Despite his recent absence, the striker was still handed a place in the Denmark squad for upcoming friendlies against Switzerland and the Faroe Islands.

Ahead of those games, boss Hjulmand has confirmed that an agreement has been reached with the Red Devils to limit Hojlund’s minutes in an effort to avoid any further injuries. Quoted by Metro, he said: "We have an agreement with United about the total amount of playing time in the two matches.

“He plays from the start against Switzerland and there are no restrictions on how much he can play in that match. Then we'll see what happens after that match.

"Our staff has put together a plan with Erik ten Hag on how he will get the best build-up after Rasmus' injury period. It is both for our good and their good.

"It does not make sense to smash a player through and increase the risk of an injury that goes beyond our own Euro plans. That plan is there for Rasmus and for all other players."

Hojlund was in electric form for Man United ahead of his injury blow. He had found the net in each of his previous six Premier League appearances - his record now sitting at 13 goals in all competitions for the Red Devils following a slow start to life at Old Trafford.

Hojlund will now be aiming to extend his stunning international record. Ahead of Saturday’s clash with Switzerland in Copenhagen, he can boast seven goals in just ten caps since his debut in 2022.

Away from his injury concerns, Hojlund has been caught up in controversy on international duty. It was claimed that his Red Devils teammates were left questioning him for agreeing to an interview with a Man United fan channel.

But he has confirmed that is untrue. Speaking to Danish outlet Tipsbladet, the striker said: "I haven't been told anything, so it's fake news. I haven't read anything about it, but it's definitely not true that I have been told that I can't do an interview with one fan media or another."
