The 20-year-old scored twice for the Young Lions against Azerbaijan on Friday afternoon.

Elliott has now scored eight goals in 19 appearances for Lee Carsley's side.

And fans believe his form warrants a spot in the senior side.

One person took to X to write: "Harvey Elliott is too good for the under 21s now. Just think he should be looking at a spot in that senior team especially with the season he’s had, more than deserved."

Another agreed, adding: "He's way too good for that level."

A third wrote: "Should've made it into the England squad."

While a fourth commented: "Playing over 100 games for Liverpool at 20 and still playing for England’s U21s is jokes this wouldn’t happen if he played for United, Chelsea, City or Arsenal."

Since joining Liverpool in 2019, Elliott has made 107 senior appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists.

However, he is yet to make his senior England debut.

The Young Lions cruised to a 5-1 win over Azerbaijan in Friday's U21 Euro qualifier.

Noni Madueke, Jaden Philogene and Archie Gray also got on the scoresheet.

Not only did Elliot's performance catch the eye, but also his collar.

He appeared to hide the controversial St George's Cross on the new England kit - although his motivation for doing so wasn't clear.

Young Lions boss Carsley this week revealed he had rejected an approach from the Republic of Ireland to become the country’s new manager.

He said: “I've always said that I'm really privileged to do this job I'm in.

“I went to speak to them. Really informal, enjoyable, for around an hour. It went no further.

“It was good to see what their thoughts were and to explore whether I was ready to take that next step. It just went no further. I didn't push it.”
