A woman says she 'lost 30kg' through hypnosis and was so inspired that now she works as a hypnotherapist and wants to help you hit your fitness goals

Hannah Apperley, 28, struggled with motivation when it came to going to the gym and no matter how hard she tried she couldn't shift the weight she wanted to lose.

Instead of supplements or a strict regime, Hannah, from London, turned to hypnotherapy - and soon she went from couch potato to gym fanatic.

She soon lost all the weight she wanted to be rid of and went from strength to strength, and now she's teamed up with Gymbox to offer a 'commitment therapy class', which 'combines the power of hypnotherapy with subconscious coaching'.

Hannah said: "Hypnosis is very similar to meditation, I started meditating and focussing on myself, I also got hypnotherapy and I lost 30kg in the gym - I'm kind of living proof of the fact that this works.

"I think there was knowledge, but also just general low self-worth, low motivation, and I didn't really know myself to be honest - the hypnotherapy as well as joining the gym helped me really turn my life around, and that led to me setting up my business."

Now Hannah works as a hypnotherapist, and she believes that a bit of sleep coaching could be just what people need to stick to their fitness goals.

She said: "We have the sharing circle at the beginning where everyone shares why they are there and a little bit about themselves, then we go into the hypnosis.

"It's broken down into four parts, you have the intro, the deepener, the change work, that's kinda the juicy bit, then you have the ending which brings people out the end of it.

"Then we go round the group and everyone shares what insights they might have had, then I end the sessions with how they will make themselves proud this week.

"There's a reason that is blocking anyone from achieving their goals, whether that goal is in the gym or a career goal, there's a reason why there's something that is stopping them, so hypnotherapy gets to that reason and helps them work through it."

Hannah's class with Gymbox is currently over-subscribed with 22 people on the waiting list, as people are eager to try her technique.

In the new class, participants will be guided by Hannah and slip into a natural state of focused concentration, allowing her to tap into the power of the subconscious mind.

Hannah said: "Hypnosis works through inducing the theta brainwave state, the same to that of a toddler.

"This is done by using suggestive and relaxing language to 'lift' the critical faculty part of the mind and enter a consciously meditative state. Once in this state, we can begin the 'change work' and 'upgrade the operating system' of our lives.

"I always say in order for you to really want change, you kind of have to be sick of your own s**t. Get radically honest with yourself and get real - it might hurt your ego a bit, and will probably be uncomfortable as you're beginning to confront negative emotions and bad habits, but this is what is needed to create the drive to want better for yourself."

Gymbox explained that millions of Brits make new year's resolutions but a staggering 80 per cent give up before the end of January.

Marc Diaper, CEO of Gymbox, said: "Every year we enter optimistic that we'll make the positive changes we crave. But more often than not, we go too far, causing us to give up early on in the year.

"Commitment Therapy is a game-changing way for people to stay focused and motivated as they work towards their resolutions. We are confident that it will be a popular addition to our gym class line-up and help our members achieve their goals in the new year."

Commitment therapy classes are being offered from February 1 on Mondays, at 7:30pm at Gymbox, and Wednesdays at 7:00pm at Gymbox Victoria.
