Spencer Matthews has shed light on his "boozy relationship" with Vogue Williams and "losing everything" after winning The Jump.
Speaking on The Mail's Everything I Know About Me podcast, Spencer his relationship with Vogue led him to make a huge decision about his life. He said: "There was a certainty that I would lose Vogue, if I carried on drinking the way I was drinking."
Spencer revealed that after the pair met in 2017 on reality show The Jump, they enjoyed a "highly social, quite boozy relationship" and would often go out partying together. Reflecting on winning the reality series, he continued: "I think anybody who was on The Jump will tell you that it was quite something
"Although I went sober when I made the finals for ten days before the finals, only went and won! When I won I went on some like mental bender, lost everything. I was beginning to feel like I was a real mess, then. And that was a bit unusual for me."
Spencer revealed that his wife Vogue "hates alcohol" and "can't being hungover" but is "a bit of a binge drinker". "She doesn't like the taste of booze, but she'll drink to get drunk. Back then she would drink to get drunk every few days. Now, it's once a month type of thing," Spencer explained.
Davina McCall still talks to three Big Brother stars and felt bad for Jade Goody"On the days off, I would drink and she wouldn't. And then she would get back on the horse. And then when she stopped, I carried on and it was every day, and she would draw attention to it."
Spencer recalled Vogue falling pregnant with their son Theo as a big turning point for him as his "drinking was emphasised by the fact that she wasn't drinking".
"There was a general level of disappointment in her about me. Which felt s**t, right, because I've always wanted people who are close to me to be proud of me," he added.
Vogue's career went from strength to strength after The Jump while Spencer felt he couldn't quite match up. Back in 2017, Spencer recalled getting into bed with Vogue, who was pregnant, after drinking most of a bottle of whiskey.
He told her he planned to quit drinking, adding: "She didn't really believe me, and neither did anybody else. I didn't drink for three and a half years, just stopped." The next morning Spencer signed up to his first ultra marathon – running six and a half marathons in five days in the Sahara Desert.
The Made in Chelsea star subsequently launched his low-alcohol drinks company The Clean Liquor Company in 2019.
