Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu has finally broken her silence after suffering a fierce backlash from her appearance on Celebrity Big Brother and refusing to take part in the final.
The Love Island winner was due to appear at the live show with her fellow ex housemates but was a no-show following her 'car-crash' stint on the show. Ekin-Su has admitted it was her choice not to appear as she did not want to put herself in another 'uncomfortable' situation.
The star retreated from the limelight after being grilled about her antics in the house by hosts AJ Adudu and Will Best. Ekin-Su looked devastated to be leaving and was stunned to be hit with accusations of 'bratty' behaviour and entitlement on the outside.
Breaking cover for the first time in over a week today, Ekin Su said: "I know it’s unlike me to hide away, but I’ve been taking some time to reflect."
She went on: "Sometimes in our lowest moments, we learn the most important lessons about ourselves. I hope you don’t think I was selfish for setting boundaries and putting my own needs first last night. I’m fully aware that not everybody will understand my absence, or think it was the right decision to make, but it was the right decision for me."
Gemma Owen's mum makes cryptic 'fakery' dig after Love Island star's Luca splitRevealing why she said 'no' to the final, Ekin continued: "I chose to remove myself from a potentially uncomfortable situation that I preferred to avoid. I’m proud of myself for recognising what I need during this time, despite the hate that might come my way. Accountability is key and when I’m ready, I will give some context around these past few weeks. Thank you to everybody who has sent kindness my way, I see you, and I appreciate you. The new chapter starts now."
She concluded: "I hope everybody enjoyed watching the CBB final. A huge congratulations to David for the win. Xx."
David Potts was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother on Friday night, and was cheered on by fellow ex housemates - minus Ekin Su and Gary Goldsmith, who chose not to appear after his niece Kate Middleton's health update.
Concern for Ekin-Su had been mounting after she failed to appear as a guest on Lorraine Kelly's ITV show after leaving Big Brother, despite the host telling viewers she would appear.
Lorraine claimed the reality star hadn't turn up and didn't explain why, leaving viewer shocked. The confusion came after Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls had teased Ekin-Su's upcoming appearance on the daytime show.
However, when they panned over to host Lorraine half an hour before her show was due to start, she confirmed the Ekin-Su never arrived. Susanna asked her: "We thought you might have Ekin-Su on." But she told them: "So did I! but alas, no. I don't know, we're trying to find out. She was due to come in right, but no."
After Lorraine appeared to drop the star in it, later that day her show's official Instagram page issued a statement claiming Ekin-Su had never meant to be on. A spokesperson penned: "We’d like to clear up a misunderstanding, Ekin-Su did not pull out of the show or throw the programme into chaos this morning. We’d love to welcome her back on the programme soon. We apologise for the confusion.”
Ekin-Su had a tough exit from Big Brother, as she was grilled on her so-called 'bratty behaviour.' Strictly and theatre star Layton Williams slammed Ekin-Su for 'blaming the edit' during an awkward moment on spin-off series Late & Live.
Big Brother host AJ Odudu also questioned Ekin-Su over the comments about viewers not seeing everything as the Love Island star's mum was heard shouting out in her defence.
Ekin-Su said: "You haven't seen everything, they cut stuff out," to which Layton hit back: "You're not going to blame it on the edit. One thing you're not going to do is blame it on the edit. We see what we see and it's a shame."
