SHAMIMA Begum’s lawyer — who is running to become an MP — has been sanctioned for a series of hateful tweets.

Mohammed Akunjee was fined £1,350 by regulators for “abusive” posts which “intended to shock”.

The Solicitors Regulation Authority did not make the messages public but said he “failed to act in a way that upholds public trust in the legal service”.

Mr Akunjee, 46, who is standing as an Independent candidate in Bethnal Green and Stepney in East London, already had a regulator warning.

He was the Begum family’s adviser after the 15-year-old went to join IS in Syria in 2015.

Begum, now 24, was stripped of her British status in 2019.
