WITH up to 80% of people experiencing chicken skin at some point in their life, it’s no surprise that sufferers are always sharing products to banish the skin condition.
Officially named keratosis pilaris, it is characterised by small, rough bumps that typically appear on the upper arms, thighs, buttocks and sometimes on the face.

The condition occurs when keratin, a protein that helps protect the skin, forms hard plugs within hair follicles.
These plugs obstruct the opening of the hair follicles, resulting in the formation of rough, raised bumps.

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid (BHA) known for its exfoliating properties.
It penetrates the skin to unclog pores, dissolve dead skin cells and help improve the texture of rough, bumpy skin.
And while it’s known for its exfoliating properties, the CeraVe’s Smoothing Cream is formulated to be gentle enough for daily use.
Unlike harsh physical exfoliants, which can irritate the skin, salicylic acid provides chemical exfoliation that helps improve skin texture without causing irritation or redness.
This cream is said to be a one-week saviour for sufferers of chicken skin
