Cleaning white clothing can often be a nightmare - items can get easily stained and some never look the same crispy white once you have worn them.

While a quick wash is usually enough to get your clothes ready to wear again, it often does not suffice for whites with mould marks. On occasion, you may have noticed small black specs on your whites if they have been left at the bottom of your washing basket - this is mould. It can often form when clothes are wet and left clumped together in a warm spot and leaves stains.

One woman has come up with a miracle cleaning hack that banishes black mould from her whites in minutes. As bills continue to rise in the UK, the last thing you want to do is spend a fortune on washing clothes over and over again or purchasing expensive cleaning products. The good news is that this hack costs less than £2.

Hazel McKinnie - one half of the Wee Scotty Cleaners, who regularly share their cleaning hacks on TikTok - says she was "nearly crying" after finding the Astonish Mould and Mildew Blaster for £1.50. The mum-of-two confessed that she had left one of her favourite shirts in the bottom of her laundry basket under a damp towel. The 44-year-old had gone on holiday, and upon her return, she found a mouldy mess on her shirt.

Showing the damage in a video, Hazel said: "So this is one of my good white shirts that I wear with my jeans all the time. I had it on in London and then I came home and I left it lying in my washing basket and I must have chucked a wet towel on top of it.

"Then I've went on holiday and left it in the basket for a fortnight with the wet towel so now it’s got damp marks on it. I'm absolutely gutted."

Hazel, from Dumfrieshire, Scotland, shared how she used the Astonish spray to get ride of the mould. She sprayed a generous amount on the affect area, before putting it in the washing machine for a 60C cycle. When she pulled out her shirt from the washing machine, it was once again a beautifully crisp, white colour with no stains on it.

Hazel added: "My shirt is new again and thank goodness for that because I was nearly crying, I love that shirt. It's absolutely pristine again."

Reacting to her TikTok two people dubbed her tick as "brilliant". Another said: "Did this with a rust/yellow stain on cloth shower curtain from holiday let and brought it out like new."
