Germany vs Netherlands betting preview

The word friendly can't be used to describe a fixture between the Germans and the Dutch. The two have been fierce rivals on and off the football pitch for many years now.

Historically, they have produced some of the most famous and infamous matches in history.

There was the famous 1974 World Cup final in Munich. And the infamous clash in Milan at the 1990 World Cup, marred by the unsavoury red cards handed out to Rudi Voller and Frank Rijkaard.

On both occasions, Germany played under the West Germany name, and on both occasions, the Germans won 2-1.

Moving on from the history lesson, and home advantage seems to have played a part in the betting ahead of this match.

Given the recent form of both teams, it’s hard to justify seeing Germany as the odds-on favourites. But after their 2-0 win away in France on Saturday night, maybe Julian Nagelsmann’s team has finally turned the corner.

In all honesty, Germany could have won by a far bigger margin than they did. But I’m sure they would have taken a 2-0 win before the match kicked off.

Results can sometimes be deceptive. Germany’s 2-0 win over France wasn't. But the Netherlands' 4-0 win over Scotland was.

The Scots had plenty of chances at 1-0 down, and how Steve Clarke’s team didn’t trouble the goal-scoring statisticians is a mystery.

But the visitors wasted their opportunities and then decided to gift three goals to the Dutch late on. The Scots called the defeat embarrassing. Virgil van Dijk said the Dutch were lifeless, and it was never a 4-0 match.

Not knowing which version of both teams will turn up in Frankfurt tonight makes it hard to predict the result. But home advantage could swing a tight match Germany’s way.

Germany to score over 1.5 goals (Spreadex)

Even though the Germans have been on a poor run in recent months, they have still scored two or more goals in five of their last seven matches.

At home against a Dutch team that was carved wide open by Scotland on many occasions on Friday, the Germans can make it six out of eight.

⚽ Back Germany to score over 1.5 goals at 8/11 with Spreadex ⚽

Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score (bet365)

The French probably should have scored against Germany on Saturday, and Scotland most definitely should have scored against the Dutch on Friday.

Both teams have good attacking talent, and both have plenty of holes at the back. Expect goals when the two meet, and with a 2-1 or 2-2 scoreline possible, over 2.5 goals and both teams to score looks highly probable.

⚽ Back over 2.5 goals and both teams to score at 5/6 with bet365 ⚽

Declan Rice had 1+ fouls committed (Sky Bet)

Boosted from 4/6 to even money, a bet on Rice to commit one or more fouls looks well worth a punt.

The match is likely to be possession-based and played in the middle of the park. Rice will see a lot of the ball and will also need to be tenacious in his attempts to dispossess the Belgian playmakers.

⚽ Back Declan Rice to commit one or more fouls at 1/1 with Sky Bet ⚽
