Boy George will be spinning the wheels of steel aboard Virgin Voyages cruise ships this summer alongside a team of astronauts.
The Culture Club legend will be sailing and DJing on the company's annual Virgin Celebration Voyage, which will see firm founder Sir Richard Branson and recently back-down-to-Earth Virgin astronauts bopping along to Boy George hits.
The cruise has a whole host of other fun activities for sailors to take part in including energizing fitness classes, interactive workshops, exclusive fireside chats and daily happy hours.
"Not only are we excited to bring back this special series, but we’re making a splash, doing it bigger and better than in 2023 with not one, but three incredible voyages. Once a year, our Sailors have unprecedented access to immerse themselves in the magic of both Virgin Voyages and the Virgin brand. They’ll be rubbing elbows with visionary leaders from across the Virgin family and this year’s very special guests," said Nirmal Saverimuttu, CEO of Virgin Voyages.
The sailings of this year’s Virgin Celebration Voyage include:
Spectators hoping to see UK's first rocket launch stuck in 'gridlocked' traffic- Valiant Lady, Dominican Daze: August 30 to September 4 (Miami - Puerto Plata - Beach Club at Bimini - Miami)
- Scarlet Lady, French Daze & Ibiza Nights: September 1-8: (Barcelona - Marseille - Cannes - Palma de Mallorca - Ibiza - Barcelona)
- Resilient Lady, UK to Zeebrugge & Amsterdam: September 3-8 (Portsmouth - Amsterdam - Zeebrugge (Bruges) - Portsmouth)
Virgin Voyages is an exclusively adult cruise line that was founded three years ago. The company says it was inspired by superyacht design, with its fleet of ships "exemplify an elevated, boutique hotel at sea with contemporary spaces that strike the perfect balance of nautical chic and glamour."
At the moment the cruises depart from the sun-soaked cities of Miami, Barcelona, and Athens and offer more than 60 unique itineraries, sailing to 100 ports of call. From August Virgin Voyages will launch from the UK for the first time, meaning British passengers won't have to travel far or fly to hop onboard.
Earlier this month Sir Richard sat down with the Mirror to talk about his ambitions for the cruise line. The billionaire told the publication of his dreams of running a 12-month long voyage that would allow cruise fans to live and work on the luxurious vessels as they wend their way round glamorous destinations.
Although such a plan has not been finalised by Virgin Voyages, and potential routes not yet worked out, such a sailing would be a significant expansion of the cruise firm's current longest offering - a month long voyage aboard Scarlet Lady as it sails along the Mediterranean. The current best price for that trip is a touch over £8,000, suggesting the year-long cruise may cost around the £100,000 mark.
If Virgin Voyages confirms the plans, then it would join a number of other firms offering longer and longer sailings in a 12 months in which the mega-cruise has made numerous headlines. Unhappy customers told of how they'd moved their lives around to spend three years aboard the Life at Sea cruise last year, only for it to be cancelled, while one long Royal Caribbean sailing became a TikTok sensation.
