Thomas Tuchel claimed Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae was caught out after a pair of "greedy" errors during the team's Champions League semi-final.

Summer signing Kim had been out of the side of late, but an injury to Matthijs de Ligt meant he made his first Champions League start since February on Tuesday night. It was an evening to forget for the South Korea international, though, as he gave away the penalty kick from which Vinicius Junior equalised.

Kim also struggled with Vinicius for the opening goal, with Real Madrid taking the lead in Bavaria despite Bayern having the bulk of the first-half chances. Tuchel's side scored twice in between the Brazilian's two goals, though, leaving the tie delicately poised going into the return leg.

Tuchel has beaten Real Madrid at this stage of the competition before, sealing a 3-1 aggregate win with Chelsea in 2021. It won't be easy for his Bayern team to repeat the trick, though, and the manager was brutally honest in his assessment of Kim's pair of errors.

“He was too ‘greedy’ twice," Tuchel told reporters. "He made the first move too early against Vinicius in the first goal and got caught by Toni Kroos’ pass. He speculated and was too aggressive.

"In the second goal, unfortunately, it was another mistake. We were five against two, we had the numbers. There was no need to defend that aggressively against Rodrygo.

"The moment Eric [Dier] was about to help, he brought [Rodrygo] down. Unfortunately with their quality, these mistakes get punished. But well, it happens. We have to move on.”

Despite the individual errors, Tuchel was pleased with elements of his team's performance and believes they have a solid chance of reaching the final at Wembley. "We started very well in the first 10, 15 minutes and should have taken the lead. But then we strayed off our plan, played slower and became more insecure," he said.

"We conceded a goal, which didn't make it easier for us. Nothing much happened in the first half. In the second half, we played better and more aggressively but then Real did what they do to all their opponents.

"They scored two goals from two chances. It feels weird, but the situation is very clear now. We need to win to make it to Wembley. It's still a 50-50 situation."

The second leg at the Bernabeu will take place on May 8, by which time Bayern and Real Madrid will already know who awaits in the final. It could yet be a repeat of the 2013 final between Bayern and Borussia Dortmund, with Dortmund hosting Paris Saint-Germain in their first leg on Wednesday night before travelling to the Parc des Princes on May 7.
