The New York Jets have made a potentially brilliant move by trading for Philadelphia Eagles edge rusher Haason Reddick, strengthening their defence after Bryce Huff left the team.
Huff signed a three-year deal with the Eagles, and now Reddick is heading to the Jets in exchange for a conditional 2026 third-round draft pick. According to NFL Network, this could become a second-round pick in 2026 if Reddick plays at least 67.5 percent of the time for the Jets in 2024 and achieves at least 10 sacks.
The Jets will also pay $14.5 million of Reddick's total wages for 2024, which was the final year of his contract with the Eagles. The Eagles will cover Reddick's $1 million roster bonus that he was due earlier this month.

This shows a big commitment from the Jets, who are keen to make the most of having veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers on their team. His first year in New York was cut short by a nasty injury in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, but the Jets are fully committed to making the second year a success.
New England Patriots warned Mac Jones is "limited" as quarterback fined againThe Jets have one of the best defences in the NFL, but they've struggled offensively, which is why they haven't reached the playoffs since 2010. This is the longest drought in the NFL, and one they were hoping to end last season.
When Rodgers got injured, every Jets fan, team member, and office worker felt a brought down because it seemed like the whole offseason was wasted. There were also injuries in defence and the offensive line, but Reddick's past performance suggests he won't be a problem fitness-wise.
Reddick has only missed one game in his entire NFL career, which started in 2017 when the Arizona Cardinals picked him as No. 13 overall.
Over the past four years, Reddick has really stepped up. His 50.5 sacks during this time are the fourth highest in the NFL, behind T.J. Watt, Myles Garrett, and Trey Hendrickson.
The Jets first met with Jadeveon Clowney, a former linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens who was the top pick in 2014. But when Clowney agreed to join the Carolina Panthers, they turned their attention to Reddick because Huff had effectively taken his place with the Eagles.
Reddick first complained about his contract with the Eagles back in February and was allowed to look for a trade before the 2024 season. After getting 11 sacks and 38 tackles last season, Reddick felt his contract didn't reflect how much he contributed, and now he hopes to get an extension at the Jets.
This is a crucial year for the Jets, as it might be the best they get from Rodgers before he considers retiring. Jets fans have been waiting over a year to see him play properly, and the team needs a good season.
With Reddick, they're trying to make sure their defence is as strong as it was in 2023.
