Some might say Jon Richardson is already a bit like a grumpy old man – but the usually downbeat comedian looks delighted with his transformation into a grandad.

The funnyman wanted to find out what life is like for older folk and loved his wrinkly new image, grinning away and zooming along on a mobility scooter. Jon, in real life a sprightly 41, got the makeover for Meet The Richardsons, the mockumentary about his life with wife and fellow comic Lucy Beaumont.

An insider said: “Jon was transformed into an OAP. The change was nothing short of incredible. Jon loved having such a brilliant disguise and used the opportunity to get up to mischief. He went out to a pub and annoyed the punters for a laugh.”

Jon and Lucy play exaggerated versions of themselves in the hit comedy drama. The new series will feature cameo appearances from household names including Adrian Chiles, Alexander Armstrong, Ben Shephard, Cheryl Baker, Gregg Wallace, Lee Mack and The Cheeky Girls.

The new series starts on TV channel Dave on April 8.
