The mum of a student left comatose after having her head slammed into concrete during a school fight has denounced rumours 'on social media and otherwise' of her involvement.
Kaylee Gain was left unconscious in the intensive care unit for almost three weeks after a fight on March 8 left her fighting for her life. Although she has now woken up she can't remember the fight and is struggling to walk unaided.
The 16-year-old's mum, April Nordstrom, has spoken out against rumours she had driven Kaylee to the fight, which has so far seen one 15-year-old arrested. The family are calling on the other teen to be arrested and charged as an adult.
A statement from the family's lawyer, Bryan. Kaemmerer, has shed light on the recent allegations, also confirming reports of another fight with a different student a day before were confirmed by a recent update from the family provided by their lawyer.

Widow brings pillow with late husband's face on it to pub every New Year's EveIt reads: "Kaylee's mother would also like to denounce some rumours on social media and otherwise that she drove Kaylee to the location where this assault occurred. In actuality, Kaylee's mother was at work when this incident occurred, and this fact can be corroborated by numerous co-workers. One of these co-workers drove Kaylee's mother to the hospital after the police called to inform her about the incident."
Videos of the fight spread on social media. They appeared to show a 15 year old student hitting Kaylee while she lay helpless on the ground, even smashing her head into the concrete. Kaylee suffered serious brain injuries, including damage to her frontal lobe, and for a while, no one knew if she would wake up or recover.
The family's lawyer revealed that Kaylee is "now out of the intensive care unit" and has been able to speak with her parents, even if it's just for a little while.
The family has also taken issue with comments from the accused's family and others to "downplay the accused's actions". It read: "Kaylee's parents also take issue with recent public comments by members of the accused's family and others that attempt to downplay the accused's actions by suggesting that because the accused is 'in the choir', 'on the honor roll', and 'multilingual' that she incapable of committing this level of violence.
"If anything, the accused's reported level of intelligence suggests that she was fully capable of understanding that violence of this nature would lead to the devastating injuries that Kaylee has sustained, and therefore provides a further reason why it is appropriate for her to be tried an adult." The recent legal document also makes note of online posts from the accused who is alleged to have "calculated" the attack on Kaylee beforehand.
The letter from Kaemmerer also discussed Kaylee's family's desire for the 15-year-old suspect in her beating to be tried as an adult, which they said would be the "most appropriate way to provide the justice that Kaylee deserves." He listed social media posts that the teen allegedly made that "admit[ed]" her involvement in the fight, which he said she herself described as "calculated" as she also joked about how she should "join MMA or WWE."
