Strictly Come Dancing's head judge Shirley Ballas has opened up about the Princess of Wales ' secret visit to the show's set - and Prince Louis' adorable request.
It was reported last year that Kate took Princess Charlotte and Louis on an under-the-radar trip to Elstree Studios to watch a rehearsal of the iconic BBC show as the trio are all massive fans of the series. At the time, it was said they got to meet the judges, some of the professional dancers as well presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. And it seems that Charlotte and Louis were treated to a very special gift when they stopped by on the set - and that the children had an "absolute ball".
Speaking to The Sun, former pro dancer Shirley explained: "'They are [Charlotte and Louis] beautiful. When they visited we had these crowns on set, so I thought it would be a nice idea to give the little girl a crown and I got him a nice box of sweets. Then he went, 'I want one of those' and pointed at the crown.
“So we had to go and find him a little crown. They’re beautifully polite children. They had an absolute ball. We have photos, but I didn’t want to post them. I think it's more private for her. I was just glad she was able to come in and have a great day. They all watch Strictly."
Kate is known to be a Strictly fan with Prince William once letting slip that his wife and mother-in-law Carole Middleton like to watch the show. King Charles and Queen Camilla are both said to be also big fans of the BBC show. As was the late Queen. In 2022, Camilla met 2021 Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis on the EastEnders set and told her she had voted for her. Four years before Camilla was on the Christmas special episode and danced with judge Craig Revel Horwood and pro Brendan Cole at Buckingham Palace.
What Ola and James Jordan really ate and did to shed 7stMeanwhile, back in 2018 Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, took her daughter Lady Louise to watch an episode of the show as a treat for her 15th birthday. And just last week one of the show's star professionals revealed that Princess Anne would love to appear in the flagship dance competition.
Nadiya Bychkova claimed that Anne told her last month "at a ballet event" that she would like to join the cast of Strictly. "She is a Strictly fan, and she wants to go on the show — she told me," 34-year-old Bychkova told the Sun newspaper. “She did say that. I think she would be good — there’s a lot of personality there, isn’t there?”
Speaking on the royals' love for Strictly, Bychkova added: "They love it, and they watch it all the time. Whenever you see royals at events, they all know what’s going on. I’m not from this country so I don’t know all the royal etiquette, but you learn through situations, and I just try to be (as) respectful as I can when I meet the royals. It just blows your mind to think how big this show is."
