A second man has been arrested in connection with the sad death of George Gilbey.
The Gogglebox star died when he fell through a skylight whilst working in Shoeburyness, Essex on March 27th. A 36-year-old man from Witham has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter by Essex police.
A second man, 47, was also held over the same offence but has since been released under investigation. The other man still remains in police custody as Essex Police work in a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive.
An inquest hearing was held in Chelmsford last month, where they were told Gilbey fell through a skylight while working on a roof. A post-mortem examination found his injuries were "consistent with a fall from height." Senior coroner Lincoln Brookes said he would adjourn proceedings for a total of fourth months at the request of Essex Police. "[Gilbey] was working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight and landed on the ground below," coroner's officer Deborah Frost told the hearing.
At the time of George's sad passing, Essex Police confirmed a man had died in Shoebury. The statement read: "We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10am this morning (27 March), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury. The ambulance service including air ambulance were in attendance. Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners including the Health and Safety Executive. A cordon remains in place at the scene."
Strictly's Saffron Barker sparks romance rumours with Gogglebox starGeorge's mother Linda recalled the heartbreaking final conversation she had with her son. In an interview last week, she said George called her the morning of his accident. She remembered: "He phoned me at 9.30 on the morning and said he was working — and asked me for his ‘breakfast money’. I put £30 in his account so he could get food, and he seemed fine.
"He had a drink the night before, and liked a bottle of white wine or two, but was happy that he was working. He ended the phone call by saying, ‘I love you’ like he usually did. I treasure those words."
Linda also opened up about her own health battles, explaining she had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and George had been looking after her. She added: "He would fuss over me, change my bedding and do my shopping. He was always nagging me to remember to take my pills. George was very kind and had a heart of gold."
