Rebekah Vardy could face another legal fight after learning of a rival bid to cash in on her Wagatha Christie court case.

The wife of Leicester and former England striker Jamie trademarked the name last year after losing her libel action against fellow WAG Coleen Rooney. Her goal was to brand kit like fashion and jewellery – but now someone else wants to use the term.

Papers show Edinburgh businesswoman Tammie Ford McMillan has applied to the Intellectual Property Office to market “Wagatha Christie” to sell “tops (clothing)”.

The move, being examined by lawyers at the government department, is opposed by London Entertainment Inc, which originally applied for the trademark for Rebekah. Luxury Lancashire linen company Christy previously opposed Rebekah’s application.

A source said: “It was a smart move from Becky to trademark the name and take some control over the saga – and try and claw some money back in the process. Someone coming in for the name is a battle she doesn’t need right now but she’s not giving it up without a fight.”

The development is the latest twist in the saga that kicked off in 2019, when Coleen accused her old pal on Twitter of leaking stories about her.

The 38-year-old, married to ex-Man United and England star Wayne, turned detective to root out the source of tales on her family – leading to the case being dubbed Wagatha Christie, after whodunnit writer Agatha Christie.

Rebekah, 42, sued Coleen for libel – but lost. She was branded an “untrustworthy witness”, likely to have destroyed evidence on purpose.

Mrs Justice Steyn concluded Rebekah probably worked with her agent, Caroline Watt, to leak stories from Coleen’s private Instagram account, giving journalists tips.

The case spawned a TV documentary and West End play, and last week their lawyers returned to the High Court to battle over legal costs. Mum-of-four Coleen is fighting an order to pay 20% of a £320,000 bill Rebekah ran up.

Meanwhile, Rebekah is enjoying a £7,000-a-night resort in Thailand with Jamie and their five children.
