Making a cheese toastie can be a messy task. Melted cheese can spill over the side of the bread and get stuck to the inside of your sandwich toaster making it difficult to clean.

One woman believes she has the perfect solution to the problem – which may already be lying in your kitchen drawers. Lucy Burgess, who posts online as @lucyburgess96, is known for sharing lifestyle content – from parenting to money-saving hacks.

But this time she has gone viral after sharing her "no mess, no fuss" hack that allows her to make toasties without losing any of the cheesy goodness to the hot plate. All you need is a piece of grease-proof paper.

Many of us will already have a roll of it somewhere in our kitchens, but if you don't you can get it pretty cheaply from your nearest supermarket. A roll costs just £1.45 from Asda, which would allow you to make multiple mess-free toasties.

In the video, which gained more than 19,000 likes, she said: "Cheese toastie hack: The grease-proof paper stops any mess getting onto the machine. Plus, you can eat the cheese that's eased out."

TikTok users were left stunned by the hack as they took to the comments promising to try it for themselves. One user said: "I actually threw my toastie maker away because I was sick of cleaning it."

Another added: "Oh my days! Genius! I hate cleaning mine, will definitely try this," as a third added: "Never even thought to do this, hate trying to get hard cheese out of corners."

A fourth wrote: "This is so smart." However, some users were left fuming over the positioning of Lucy's sandwich in the toaster.

A viewer wrote: "That's a crime to do it like that in the middle," while a second added: "Who makes a toasty in the middle?"
