Justin Kluivert is hoping his return to form in the Premier League will convince Dutch boss Ronald Koeman to pick up the phone ahead of this summer’s Euros.
Kluivert, 24, has enjoyed a successful debut season in England as he helped Bournemouth to their highest Premier League points tally this season.
The former Ajax and Roma striker scored his seventh league goal of the season last weekend against Brighton to surpass his dad Patrick’s tally of six when he played for Newcastle in the 2004-05 campaign.
Kluivert is now waiting anxiously to see if his form for the Cherries can get him a return to the Dutch set up for the Euro 2024 as he looks to get his first cap for six years.
The forward said: “That’s something I’m thinking about. That’s the most beautiful thing, to play for your country. It’s unique. It is being part of the best 23 players of your country. That’s unique. If they need me then I will be there.”
Premier League odds and betting tipsAfter a big move to Roma in 2018 from Ajax didn’t work out, Kluivert spent stints at RB Leipzig, Nice and Valencia on loan but now feels content after a permanent switch to Bournemouth last year. And he believes his form in the Premier League means he deserves a call from Koeman.
Kluivert said: “To come to Premier League and do what I’ve done like this, I think that’s something you could say ‘he deserves it’.
“If you ask me [if deserve a call up], then I would say I think I would say yes but also knowing you don’t know the choice of the coach, how he sees it, how he’s planning it.
“But if he wants me to be there, then I will be there and give it 100 per cent. It’s the most beautiful thing to play for your country.
“The Dutch team has a great bunch of guys from back to the front. I think I can fit in quite well. I hope to be there.”
