News that Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes are set to divorce after 14 years sent shockwaves through their loyal fanbase - and celebrity friends alike.

Last week a spokesperson for the former This Morning hosts, both 64, announced in a shock statement: "Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing."

Friend of the couple Peter Andre has now joined various famous faces in sharing his dismay at the news. The father of five- who divorced his first wife Katie Price - said: "I, like many, was saddened to hear the news about Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes splitting up after 14 years of marriage.

"They're both such lovely people and I wish them nothing but the best. They share a son together, so their priorities are likely to focus on him, but it's sad to see two great people go through something like that."

Eamonn and Ruth met in 1997 after being introduced by a mutual friend and went on to marry in Hampshire in 2010, now sharing a 21 year old son, Jack. The confirmation of their divorce followed on from rumours about the couple, who haven't been pictured together in months.

While Eamonn addressed the news on Tuesday as he took to his GB News show, thanking fans for their support, Ruth is yet to comment directly on the split.

Eamonn said: "Just before we move on we'd just like to thank people for your support for Ruth and I over the last few days as to the news of our separation. Your support for both of us is very much appreciated."

While a reason for their divorce has not yet been revealed by Ruth nor Eamonn, a number of reports are swirling on what caused the relationship's demise. Claiming that Eamonn's health battle has played a large part in the relationship, one source has explained that Ruth felt more a 'carer' than wife.

Eamonn has been battling chronic back pain after undergoing spinal surgery in 2022 and a double-hip replacement in 2016. A friend of the couple has now claimed: "Ruth has become more his carer than a wife. Eamonn has been thoroughly miserable."

Talking to MailOnline, they continued: "He has had a torrid time with his health, he's in constant pain, and the truth is he can't contain how miserable it makes him." Continuing that Ruth began to get the brunt of his frustrations, the source explained that the dynamic became too much for the couple.

They added: "In the end it just started to get her [Ruth] down more than she could accept. She needs her own life. It's a case of her wanting to get out and enjoy herself. Women at Ruth's age realise that they only have ten, 20, 30 years max left and they want to have some fun."
