PLAYSTATION is adding a massive upgrade to one of its PS5 accessories, giving gamers more ways to play.

The new option will open up a huge library of games that have been unavailable to PlayStation 5 owners, but there is a catch - or two.

As promised earlier this year, Sony will add PC support to its PS VR2 headset, which will allow owners to play VR games on their computers via SteamVR.

Today, PlayStation revealed a PC adapter for PS VR2, which is launching on August 6 and will be sold separately from the VR headset.

The device is expected to cost £49.99 / $59.99 and will be available at select retailers and directly from PlayStation’s online store.

Hooking up a PS VR2 headset to a PC will also require a DisplayPort cable, which is not included.

While the adapter will allow gamers to play SteamVR games on their PS VR2 units, quite a few of the headset’s unique features will be missing when used with a PC.

PS VR2 features such as HDR, headset feedback, eye tracking, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback other than rumble, will not be available on PC.

Other key features of the headset, like 4K resolution, finger touch detection, and see-through view should work normally on PC, too.

Players’ PCs must meet some minimum system requirements to be able to run VR games with PS VR2.

These include having at least an Intel Core i5-7600 processor, 8GB of RAM, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 graphics card or newer, and a DisplayPort 1.4.

At launch, PS VR2 offered state-of-the-art tech, but its relatively limited library of games and the requirement to own a PS5 to use it made it a tough sell.

It would be interesting to see how the headset will perform when used with a PC and how the experience will compare to using it with a PS5.

Nevertheless, PC support is a welcome addition that will give PS VR2 owners access to a vast library of games that are not available natively on PS5.

These include Valve’s Half-Life Alyx, which is hands down one of the best VR games of all time.
