A BOY aged nine has died in woods close to his home as cops launched a probe into the heartbreaking discovery.
The tragic youngster was pronounced dead on Sunday evening in Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, shortly after mercy crews rushed to the scene.
The tragic discovery was made in a wooded area near Abbeygreen RoadOfficers investigating the circumstances around the schoolboy’s devastating loss say his passing is not being treated as suspicious.
It’s believed it may have been a tragic accident.
The lad, a pupil at Woodpark Primary, was discovered just before 7pm in a secluded wooded area close to Abbeygreen Road in the town.
Two New York cops stabbed during celebrations in Times SquareHeadteacher Debbie MacKenna yesterday issued a letter to parents expressing “with great sadness” news of his death and said their thoughts and prayers were with his family.
It read: “It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of one of our pupils on Sunday.
“Staff and pupils were informed today.
“Many pupils and families may have been aware through friends or family in the community.
“Please be assured that we have made arrangements to support those children most directly affected and we will continue to provide support from staff in school assisted by psychological services.
“Of course you will be their most important source of support.”
The note goes on to offer extra support to heartbroken youngsters struggling to take in what’s happened to their friend and schoolmate.
It added: “School staff will be looking out for children who may be upset and will offer support accordingly.
“We are aware some children will be more affected than others.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.50pm on Sunday, 2 June, 2024, we were called to a report of concern for a child in a wooded area near to Abbeygreen Road, Lesmahagow.

“Emergency services attended but the 9-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing but there are no suspicious circumstances.
"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
