Headteacher Debbie MacKenna yesterday issued a letter to parents expressing “with great sadness” news of his death and said their thoughts and prayers were with his family.

It read: “It is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of one of our pupils on Sunday.

“Staff and pupils were informed today.

“Many pupils and families may have been aware through friends or family in the community.

“Please be assured that we have made arrangements to support those children most directly affected and we will continue to provide support from staff in school assisted by psychological services.

“Of course you will be their most important source of support.”

The note goes on to offer extra support to heartbroken youngsters struggling to take in what’s happened to their friend and schoolmate.

It added: “School staff will be looking out for children who may be upset and will offer support accordingly.

“We are aware some children will be more affected than others.”
