Sam Smith made heads turn on the red carpet as they showed off a quirky new moustache. The singer attended The King's Trust 2024 Global Gala, which took place at Casa Cipriani New York on Thursday, May 2, to celebrate the charity's expansion into the United States.
The Stay With Me singer stood out wearing a head-to-toe black trench coat, made of shiny leather-like material. The coat was cinched at the waist with a belt and a popped collar, highlighting the star's full beard and a handlebar moustache. The fashion-forward singer paired the look with black leather boots and a single dangling pearl earring.
Sam debuted his facial hair when they walked the runway during the Vivienne Westwood Womenswear Fall/Winter 2024-2025 show as part of Paris Fashion Week in March, but the "Unholy" singer dressed it up even more for the more elegant affair.

See inside Camilla's £850,000 'guilty pleasure' home that King Charles hatesSam showed off his latest look at the star-studded gala, which was celebrating the non-profit's U.S. expansion and its new name, The King's Trust, an update of King Charles III’s longstanding charity, The Prince’s Trust. Sam, along with other big-name stars, were tapped to attend the event and will also work to represent the charity in Charles’ absence amid his cancer diagnosis.
The king's cancer diagnosis was announced in February and he has been on leave from royal duties during treatment, but he returned to his duties earlier this week. Lionel Richie, who has worked with the charity for more than 30 years, was the co-chair for the event and said Charles told him he wanted to attend the gala. "I told him, 'Stand still. Just recover,'" Lionel said according to The Associated Press. "'We’ve got many more of these galas to do in the future.'"
Lionel said the charity's supporters will fill in for Charles until he fully recovers. People like Sam and John Legend, who performed to close the evening, and other supporters which included Kate Moss, Emily Ratajkowski, Kate Beckinsale, Ashley Graham, actor Dominic West, who played Charles on The Crown, and more, will carry the baton until then.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the trust will continue to help young people around the world to build those key skills to support them into employment," Charles said in a statement read to the audience during the newly minted charity's first event. "Together, we can build a better future for the next generation."
The CEO of The King’s Trust USA, Victoria Gore, opened up about the charity's U.S. expansion, which launched its first program, the Enterprise Challenge, in The Bronx last year. "We don’t want to double up on what somebody else is doing already," she said. "It’s about collaboration and meeting a need."
This year, The King’s Trust has expanded its work to New York, Chicago, and Detroit, and plans to launch two new initiatives in 2024. King Charles founded The Prince’s Trust in 1976 using his severance pay from the Royal Navy. He set out to create the non-profit to help unemployed young people get trained for jobs in the United Kingdom. The initiative has since expanded to 25 countries around the world.
