IT'S a big World Pool weekend with the Epsom Derby taking centre stage.

The collaboration has been successful since its introduction to Britain back in 2019, by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and Tote, and has gone from strength to strength since.

The pool is good news for punters, with bigger and better returns as a result of going against fellow bettors across the globe.

Here's all you need to know and why betting with Tote could prove financially beneficial.

What is the World Pool?

The World Pool is a collaboration between several countries around the world.

It allows bettors to bet into the same pool as those from those countries on specific racedays.

Royal Ascot became the first British meeting to be part of the initiative back in 2019.

The World Pool days for the first half of 2024 have been revealed.

What is the benefit of World Pool to punters?

Being able to bet into the same pool as the likes of Hong Kong, Australia, France and the US, this generates greater liquidity while also being able to go against fellow bettors from across the globe.

This means that punters can place larger, more significant bets without having an impact on a horse’s price.

For example, last year's Guineas weekend saw trifecta beat bookies Tricast on 86% of races.

Meanwhile, 2000 Guineas winner Chaldean paid out at 5.95 with Tote, with the SP much lower at 7/2 (4.5).

Significant differences can arise from the price offered on World Pool to that offered by the bookmakers, particularly with jockeys and trainers with international profiles generally being over-bet, with lesser known connections overlooked.

How do I bet into the World Pool?

It’s simple to get involved in the World Pool.

Punters can do so via the Tote website and mobile app, bookmakers that offer Tote betting and on the racecourses themselves.

Bets placed with Tote go straight into the pool, meaning punters don’t need to indicate that they want to be involved.

What bets are available on World Pool days?

There are seven bet types available in World Pool. Those are:

  • Winner: Picking the horse that you think will win the race
  • Place: Picking a horse to finish in the places in the race
  • Exacta: Picking the first and second place horses to finish in the correct order
  • Trifecta: Picking the first, second and third horses to finish in the correct order
  • Quinella: Picking the first two horses home, in either order
  • Swinger: Picking two horses to finish in the first three places in any order
  • Treble: Only multi-leg bet – Picking the first horse in three separate races

What dates is the World Pool active?

The World Pool is in action for both days of the Guineas meeting this weekend - with a full card on Saturday and the 1000 Guineas on Sunday being part of the World Pool.

The remaining World Pool events for the first half of 2024 are:
