This might make you want to convert to wooden floors.
There are a lot of benefits to having carpets installed in your home. They can help create a cosy atmosphere, elevate your decor and colour scheme, and provide extra insulation that can help you keep your energy costs down, which is a huge bonus. However, they can also hold a grim secret: just how much grime and dirt can hide inside them, even if you are a neat freak who whips your vacuum cleaner out regularly.
Carpets get a lot of wear - probably the most out of everything in your home - we are all walking around on top of them day in, and day out, after all. But one mum hailing from Queensland, Australia, was horrified to realise just how dirty her carpets were, despite the fact she makes a habit out of cleaning them.
The mum - who has a toddler and is the owner of two dogs and a cat - had only had her carpets installed 18 months before, so she was seriously surprised at how much grime had built up in that short period. She posted in the Facebook group Mums Who Clean about her grim discovery, which occurred after she gave her carpets a thorough shampoo.
And even though she vacuums on a regular basis, she posted photos of grey water that came out of her shampooing machine and the thick amounts of hair and fur that came up in her deep clean too. She had decided to give the carpets a good go-over after buying the Tineco Carpet One Pro from an Australian store where it is currently marked down.
New Year cleaning guide with cheap hacks and tricks for a sparkling homeTesting it out, although no one would be totally delighted to see how much dirt their carpets really hold, she was seriously impressed by how well it had done the job. "I'm super impressed using it on the automatic function," she wrote. "Plus it has a drying feature which sucks up excess water and pumps out heat."
This is a crucial feature to look out for if you decide to take the plunge and invest in a carpet cleaning tool - because leaving your carpets sodden or even damp can increase the risk of mould growing in your home. Mould can be hazardous to your health, particularly if anyone in your home suffers from respiratory issues.
To minimise the risk of lots of dirt, grime, and potential allergens building up in your carpet, using a steam cleaner on a fortnightly basis is a good idea, and "it is recommended to get your carpet professionally washed at least once a year".
