It's official, a Peaky Blinders movie is in the works.
Taking to Twitter (X) on Tuesday night, the official for Netflix shared a picture of a script titled 'A Peaky Blinders film' - with it confirmed Cillian Murphy would be reprising his role as Tommy Shelby.
The streaming platform captioned the exciting snap: "BIG NEWS: A Peaky Blinders film is coming to Netflix!" The account then added: "A few words from Cillian Murphy: 'It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn't finished with me... It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans'"
The Oscar winning actor won critical praise thanks to his portrayal of the brooding gangster in the hit BBC series, which concluded its six-season run in 2022. Now, fans are buzzing with the revelation that Murphy will continue wielding power as the Shelby family's head in the upcoming movie adaptation.
"ITS HAPPENING OMG STAY CALM," one excited fan wrote online as Netflix broke the news. "Going to be screaming about this for weeks actually," another added, as a third declared: "IM SO SEATED !!! TOMMY F***ING SHELBY BACK ON MY SCREENNNN."

Writer Stephen Knight, 64, previously spilled the beans while attending the premiere of his latest series, This Town, in Birmingham, where he assured BirminghamWorld that Cillian is "definitely" on board for the wartime drama. "He definitely is returning for it. We're shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth," he disclosed to the local news outlet earlier this year.

Murphy hinted last year at being "open to the idea" of joining the film adaptation, despite appreciating the "ambiguity" of the series finale, which left viewers with the lasting image of Tommy Shelby riding into the unknown. Chatting with Margot Robbie for Variety, he confessed: "I'm totally open to the idea but y'know I also do think it was a kind of perfect six seasons. It's sometimes hard to move into the film format and I kinda do like the ambiguity of the ending. But I'm always open to like a great script."
The buzz around Murphy has only grown since he snagged an Oscar earlier this year for his stunning performance in Oppenheimer (2023), besting fellow nominees Bradley Cooper, Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti, and Jeffrey Wright for the Best Actor gong. Following his Oscar triumph, Peaky Blinders scribe Steven couldn't contain his praise for Cillian, as reported by BirminghamWorld. He lauded the actor's win as "deserved", celebrating him as "brilliant" and "such a great" individual, and remarked: "He deserves everything he gets."
