Martin Brundle misidentified a VIP as Patrick Mahomes for the second Miami Grand Prix in three years in another hilarious grid walk moment.
At the inaugural Miami race in 2022, Brundle famously misidentified NBA star Paolo Banchero as the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback live on air. And he acknowledged that mistake last year by interviewing Banchero properly at the beginning of his grid walk.
Mahomes is actually at the Miami race this weekend, so Brundle was for sure keeping an eye out for the NFL star. But he again misidentified another celebrity as Mahomes - sparking a huge reaction on social media.
"That's the guy, isn't it?" said Brundle, looking at a man who was walking past him. But, as many fans pointed out soon after, the person he thought was Mahomes was actually Miami Dolphins linebacker Jaelan Phillips.
"One day Martin Brundle and Patrick Mahomes will walk by each other, and Martin will have no idea who it was," one fan joked on social media. Another wrote: "Martin Brundle, it's happened again. That is not Patrick Mahomes!"
Inside the driver call which upset Red Bull and changed the course of F1 historyA third pointed out: "Martin Brundle is 0 for 2 on identifying Patrick Mahomes, lol." And a fourth cracked: "Martin Brundle with yet another non-Patrick Mahomes sighting on the grid walk in Miami."
Some felt for the Sky Sports broadcaster, including one who wrote: "Totally feel Martin Brundle's pain. Although I'd easily recognise Patrick Mahomes, I have no idea who some of these celebs/people he's talking to (or trying to talk to) are."
Brundle did manage to have successful conversations with some celebrities, though, including singer Camila Cabello who said: "I am addicted [to F1]. I need to come back. I like fast cars. They feel like my songs. And, I love Lewis Hamilton."
He also caught up with fashion designer Charlotte Tilbury, who waved the chequered flag in the F1 Academy race earlier in the day. Tilbury's make-up company is also the title sponsor of one of the cars competing in the all-female racing series.
She told Brundle: "Honestly, as a young girl watching Formula 1 with my dad [when] Niki Lauda [was racing], being here I'm just like, 'Look at me dad, I've got the flag!' It was amazing. What an epic vibe here today for Formula 1."
