PM’s failed racism war
The Conservatives put their greed before common decency yesterday. The comments by party donor Frank Hester about Diane Abbott were vile and indefensible.
Even Prime Minister Rishi Sunak admitted they were racist and unacceptable. He should have returned the £10million Mr Hester had donated to the Tories as soon as the imflammatory remarks came to light.
This would have sent a clear signal there is no place in our society for those who spout the language of hate and division. But Mr Sunak not only refused to return the donations, he went on to accept a further £5million from the businessman. By continuing to take this tainted money, he is effectively condoning his offensive language.
Mr Sunak’s decision to take Mr Hester’s money is all the more deplorable when MPs, especially Black and female politicians, suffer so much abuse and hatred online. It is shameful he cares more about the Tory coffers – and his electoral fortunes – than trying to root out sexism and racism.
Heroes’ snub
Rishi Sunak needs a decent explanation as to why he bunked off early from the D-Day commemorations in France. The Prime Minister failed to join heads of state and other political leaders for an event to mark the landings on Omaha Beach. His absence was an insult to the brave veterans being honoured yesterday.

Everyone understands there is an election on but surely it is more important to show your respects to those who fought for this country than grub around for a few votes?
Labour leader Keir Starmer showed where his priorities lie by attending the ceremony. No Prime Minister should put their political interests ahead of those of their country.
