AMAZON has dropped the cost of a 55-inch 4K television and it's now a best-seller on the website.

Shoppers are going mad for the TCL CF630K smart TV, which has been given a hefty 21% price drop and is now £339.

This bumper-size television from TCL - a brand known for its affordability - is now one of the best-selling smart Fire TVs on Amazon's website.

Customers might be confused about seeing the Fire name on a non-Amazon - that's the retail giant's start streaming platform, most associated with its hugely popular range of streaming sticks.

A few years back, Amazon started offering its smart TV tech to other companies and TCL was among them.

If you're looking at your battered old HD 32-inch set and thinking about upscaling - I'd say this is one of the best budget mid-size TVs out there right now.

Although, calling a 55-inch television mid-size feels a bit misleading.

Yes, TVs in the year 2024 can get a lot bigger (and more power to you if you've got the cash and the space for this £1,129 beast from LG).

But in average viewing spaces, a 55-inch television will be more than sufficient - in fact, the last thing you want to do is spend needless money on an over-sized TV whose screen is too big for your eyes to fully appreciate.

My fellow writer Danni Scott has screen sizes and viewing distances explained in her what size TV to buy explainer.

It's not just about size: I'm also very happy to see QLED tech being offered on a TV that's got price tag that basically screams 'no-frills'.

(QLED is basically like an extra-luxe version of 4K that offers way sharper contrasts and deeper, darker blacks).

Sounds is powered by Dolby Atmos, and Alexa comes built in: that means you've got hands-free control over changing channels, loading Netflix and Disney+ and operating any other smart devices you've got synced together.

I want to keep expectations measured: this is still a budget-end television. It doesn't have any of the AI-powered functions you'll see in tellies of £500 and upward.

But it's been interesting to read what shoppers on the Amazon site have to say about the CF630K range.

'For the price, this is definitely a good option,' write one customer. 'The sound is a little bit lacking in the bass department and I've seen better colour depth, but it's still a very decent 4k viewing experience.'

Another buyer says: 'The picture (the most important part of a TV) is unbelievably good for this price... [it's] absolutely on-point and rivals many (much more expensive) TVs that I have owned and/or seen.'

You can pay an extra £150 if you want a professional to come and install it, but here's a tip: read my how to wall mount a TV explainer, do it yourself and save the cash.
