One man spent a whopping £13 for a pizza while abroad, and people think it's so dreadful it 'should be illegal'.

It's always gutting when you splash the cash on something that turns out to be a unappealing. For us Brits, a food fail is particularly tough to swallow.

And one gentleman claimed he shelled out €16 (£13.00) for a pizza while on holiday, but was annoyed when it was a total letdown.

He posted a photo of the bizarre-looking pizza on Reddit, showing off a massive pie that seemed barely cooked. The pizza boasted a thick, doughy crust with ham and tomatoes slapped in the middle, topped with random blobs of mozzarella.

When you imagine a pizza, you expect a golden, cheesy top with a hearty tomato base. That's probably why this picture has left people scratching their heads.

The tomatoes looked uncooked, and the cheese was just plopped on the crust. Plus, while the edges of the dough were burnt, the middle looked like it hadn't seen any heat at all.

The post was captioned: "I paid 16 euros for this pizza", sparking a wave of comments. Over 800 users have chimed in on this culinary catastrophe. One commenter said: "Ordered a pizza, got Naan in return." Another exclaimed: "No way. That should be literally illegal."

A third chimed in: "Worst pizza I've ever seen." While a fourth added: "It's...terrifying for some reason. Like a Pizza from a bad dream. What a monstrosity."

While there were comments of sheer confusion, some people also shared their indispensable advice on pizza selection.

As it turns out, if you're planning a trip to Italy in the near future, travellers are ready and eager to share their nuggets of wisdom on the most authentic pizza joints in the country famous for pizza itself.

Even though Naples is celebrated as the birthplace of divine pizzas, many suggest other regions offer just as genuine and delectable choices. This is critical information if your travel agenda includes dining under the Italian sun.

One individual posted: "The only thing on my bucket is to go to Naples for a few weeks and hit up all the pizza places." Another responded: "If you want nice food and lively people (both good and bad kind of lively), Naples should be at least a 2 day stay for every tourist."

A third joined the conversation, saying: "Naples pizza is very specific and wasn't my favourite. I had better in Rome." While a fourth contributed: "I'd highly recommend Sorrento. Much nicer town. From there you can pop into Naples to see it at least once, and also still be close to the Amalfi coast, Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii and Capri."
