A council has promised a full investigation after four people were rushed to hospital in a 'terrifying' funfair accident.

Emergency services raced to the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park, south London, yesterday evening at around 6.20pm to reports of people being thrown from a ride. Four people were taken to hospital, where they remained on Sunday. It's understood that there was a partial collapse on the 'Froggit' roundabout ride, which spins and bounces multiple carriages around a central pillar.

One eyewitness, who had been on the ride themselves just moments earlier, described seeing man being ejected from the ride and flung into the air after a "huge cracking noise". They told the Mirror: "When I was in the queue for the toilet I heard a huge cracking noise, and then I remember seeing an old man flying out of the ride. It was terrifying to see - I went on the same ride before him. I'm extremely scared of any type of ride now, I hope all of the injured people recover."

The Lambeth Country Show reopened for its second day on Sunday afternoon after police were spotted on the site earlier in the day. In a new statement, a Lambeth Council spokesperson said: “Very sadly a funfair ride at the country show malfunctioned yesterday evening (June 8) injuring four people. They are being cared for in hospital and our thoughts are with them. An investigation into the incident, led the Met Police and Health and Safety Executive, is underway.

“We thank the emergency services for their swift response at the country show yesterday and for the support they are providing to the affected families. Following this incident, and to allow a full investigation, funfair rides at the show will be impacted by closures for the second day of the country show. The safety and well-being of our attendees remains our top priority, and we are committed to providing a secure and enjoyable experience for all visitors.” Police said no one had been trapped on the ride. Shocked local residents took to social media after the incident, as one said: "We were the next in line for the ride and it collapsed in front of us. It was horrific and we feel sick at the thought of those affected."

Four people have been taken to hospital. We await an assessment of their conditions. Nobody is trapped on the ride. Enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances. Cordons are in place at the location. The Health & Safety Executive will be informed."
