Greasy hair is a common problem that many of us struggle with.
It is caused by an excess or build-up of sebum, the natural oils our scalps secrete to maintain hair vitality. These oils are essential for reinforcing the hair's outer layers and safeguarding the sensitive proteins within.
But sometimes you can find the build up can be too much, making you feel unclean. This usually feels much better after you've washed your hair.
However, if you find that it's looking oily quite quickly after you rinse, it could be the way you are doing your hair – according to beauty expert Scott McGlynn.
The advisor-to-the-stars, who posts under the username @scottmcglynnofficial, is known for sharing skincare advice with his 245,000 followers on social media.
Kylie Jenner goes braless in mesh catsuit for new snaps on New Year's EveHe's seen it all – from nightmare spots to at-home filler – and is now offering his advice on how to take better care of your scalp and avoing greasy build up. In the video, which has gained more than 28,000 views, he warned: "Guys, you might be applying your hair products wrong."
Scott proceeded to demonstrate how he does his hair to avoid nasty amounts of build up. Starting off with some sea salt spray, he said: "I apply it to damp hair, massage it all in. Then I will get a hair dryer. Blast that dry.
"I've got poker straight hair so I get some straightening irons, giving my hair a bit of a kink. And this is where you might be going wrong.
"You get your clay or your paste put it in your tips of the fingers. As you can see, I'm doing here and working from the crown forward to the front because I had so many people say to me, I have my hair products and they always look greasy because people apply from the front.
"No you don't. You apply from the back and he gets some hairspray. Let's do it properly. So it's a nice finish. Ready for the day. Non greasy hair."
In short, use minimal product and make sure you always start applying from the back first. This should hopefully stop your tresses looking greasy.
