A passenger on the London Underground was rushed to hospital after a woman pulled down a six-foot poster stand onto their foot.

Police are hunting for a person who was seen shouting on a train before they tore a poster stand down on an escalator, leaving one of their fellow passengers in need of surgery.

The victim spent several days in hospital following the incident, which saw the poster stand torn down and hit them on their ankle. British Transport Police has released a picture of a woman in order to “help with their investigation” into the matter.

Police said they were treating the incident, which occurred at Waterloo underground station, as an assault and have appealed to the public for information. In a statement the British Transport Police said: “On Tuesday 13 February, at around 7.40pm, a person was seen shouting on a Jubilee line train before getting off at Waterloo and heading toward the escalators.

“Upon reaching the escalator, the person pulled down a six-foot poster stand causing it to fall onto the victim and land on their ankle. The victim needed an operation and spent several days in hospital as a result.

Police are looking for a woman who entered the station on the morning of Tuesday, April 2, who they say may have information that could help their investigation. British Transport Police said: “Between 9.45am and 10am on Tuesday 2 April, a woman has entered the station and caused facial injuries to multiple women by swinging her handbag around.”
