COLE PALMER'S reaction to James Trafford's incredible double save has resurfaced as the goalkeeper nears a move to Newcastle.

The duo have been team-mates at Manchester City and England.

Both represented the Three Lions last summer at the Under-21s Euros in Georgia.

England won the tournament as they beat Spain in a thrilling final, with Palmer scoring the winner.

But it was Trafford who as the hero as he made a stunning double save in stoppage time.

The 21-year-old got down to his right to block Abel Ruiz's penalty before getting back to his feet to make another reaction stop.

Palmer, who was on the bench at the time, was videoed telling Emile Smith Rowe: "I bet you he saves it."

After Trafford did, the Chelsea star was left gobsmacked, saying: "Do you know how good this guy is?

"Mad, you know, my heart. I've seen it hundreds of times. I don't have the words anymore.

"So many people I have told how good he is."

Newcastle fans loved the clip, with one saying: "When a team-mate believes in a player this much, it means something."

Another Toon supporter added: "Sign this lad up. At 21 and 6ft 5in he’s going to be a top keeper."


Trafford endured a tough season at Burnley as they were relegated to the Championship.

But SunSport exclusively revealed that the young stopper could stay in the Premier League amid interest from Newcastle and Chelsea.

Burnley are holding out for a bid of £30m.

Other reports say Trafford has already agreed personal terms with Newcastle.

He was initially called-up to Gareth Southgate's Euros squad before the boss cut seven names from the squad.
