A former Premier League footballer has been arrested in Dublin following a chase with police who then found the man was in possession of several thousand pounds of suspected cocaine.
The player was arrested in Crumlin, to the south west of the capital's city centre, having initially attempted to evade members of an garda siochana who had been alerted to dangerous driving.
The former international was eventually detained and held at a local station before being released this morning.
As first reported by the Irish Mirror, officers found what was suspected to be a quantity of cocaine with a street value of about €4,500 (£4,000) at the scene of the man's arrest.
A file is being prepared for Ireland's director of public prosecutions.
