The Leeds-born star appeared in a total of seven episodes from 2001 to 2003.

More than two decades later, Ralph's career has continued to flourish.

The baddie, who was formerly a mortal man, is described as a “world-devouring cosmic villain” by US publication Variety.

Ralph joins an ensemble cast which already includes The Last of Us star Pedro Pascal, Mission Impossible actress Vanessa Kirby, Stranger Things actor Joseph Quinn and The Bear actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach as the titular heroes.

John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser and Julia Garner have also been announced for the film

This is not Ralph's first time appearing in a major franchise.

He previously ventured into Marvel a decade ago, with the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie.

He also guest-starred in five episodes of Game of Thrones.

Ralph appeared in the final three Harry Potter movies as Amycus Carrow, a Death Eater and follower of Lord Voldemort.

Meanwhile, his other TV work includes multi-episode arcs on the likes of Coronation Street, Casualty, Waterloo Road and Peaky Blinders.

Aside from acting, Ralph also narrates the popular programme Salvage Hunters.
