A woman has been left mortified after realising her neighbours might be able to hear her bedroom antics.

Taking to Mumsnet recently, the embarrassed homeowner explained she now might "need to wear a paper bag over my head" due to the humiliation. The last thing most of us want is for the people living near us to hear the intimate details of our lives.

The woman explained her terraced home is old and while she often doesn't hear any noise, on occasion and she and her partner can hear the children living next door. But, she was horrified after realising that her neighbours might be able to hear her having sex.

She said: "My husband and I have a pretty decent sex life, and I'm not going to lie and say that when we are at home alone I don't hold back. I mean, I start off thinking, 'I hope the neighbours don't hear us,' but when the going gets good I have issues not vocalising it.

"Our bedrooms don't back onto each other which was a deliberate choice. Do I owe them a bottle of wine, and need to wear a paper bag over my head when I go outside?"

Commenting on the dilemma, one person said: "I live in a terraced and yes I can hear my neighbours both sides and one down (but they are wildly loud and vile) have sex. I don't mind hearing beds knocking on walls, I do mind hearing people scream."

Another who has heard intimate happenings from next door, added: "We used to hear our neighbours. They made some very unusual sounds. Once woke me up in the night!"

Meanwhile a third commented: "I used to hear the neighbours in my old house every now and then but their bedroom was right next to ours… can’t say it bothered me but then again it was in the middle of the night."

Putting the Mumsnet user at ease, another shared: "I've never heard my neighbours. I've lived in terraced houses for all of my 39 years."

"Never heard my neighbours having sex, but the bedrooms aren't adjacent," wrote another.
