THE brother of a three-time World's Strongest Man champ says he still tries to "protect him" - despite his bro being a 6ft 8 powerhouse.

Tom Stoltman, 29, took home his third world title after lifting weights of up to 454kg in Florida last weekend.

His brother Luke said Tom has achieved strongman fame after growing up a "young shy boy".

Luke told Sky News: "I'm just really proud of Tom for putting in a really professional performance.

"To see him flourishing it's incredible. It's a team effort. We go out to big competitions. I'm the coach and a big brother.

"I try to protect him, not that a 6ft 8 man needs much protection."

Luke added: "We have that bond and unconditional love. We have that positivity.

"Shouting for each other is powerful. We go out for a comp with that. No-one else has that.

"To see him going from a young shy boy to the man he is. He'll say it's the gym. It's incredible.

"He's a real inspiration to a lot of young kids watching."

The Scot, from Invergordon in the Highlands, said he had to "do things differently" to smash the competition this year.

He told Sky News: "Three World's Strongest Man titles at 29-years-old, the first British guy to do it.

"It is a very special moment for myself and the family."

Discussing his ongoing rivalry with the Canadian muscle man Mitchell Cooper, Tom said he had to "do things differently" in the gym.

He says he made sure he was "fitter not stronger" to win the competition this year.

He said: "It's a very good and healthy rivalry, he pushes me and I push him".

"I made sure I did more rep work, more conditioning.

"World's Strongest Man is a five-day competition, so you have to be fit as well as strong."

Tom was joined by his wife Sinead after he conquered the Atlas Stones event in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

5ft Sinead, also 29, was dwarfed by 6ft8in Tom as he clutched the Barry Frank trophy.

The couple met at a music festival in their native Scotland when Tom was just 17.
