David Hosier, a 69-year-old convicted murderer from Missouri, chose a classic comfort food combination for his final meal before being executed by lethal injection on Tuesday evening.

The Department of Corrections revealed that Hosier's last meal, served at 11am, included a New York strip steak, a baked potato with butter and sour cream, Texas toast, Dutch apple pie, and orange juice and milk.

Hosier, who had spent over a decade on death row for a crime he maintained he didn't commit, was put to death shortly after 6pm local time in Missouri. He was pronounced dead at 6.11pm, according to The Kansas City Star. Meanwhile, protesters advocating for the abolition of the death penalty gathered at various locations across the state, pleading for clemency on his behalf.

In 2013, Hosier was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to death for the killing of Angela Gilpin, 45, in September 2009. Angela and her husband, Rodney, 61, were discovered dead in the hallway of their Jefferson City apartment building.

Prosecutors argued that all evidence pointed towards Hosier, a veteran who once frequented the corridors of the Pentagon. When police apprehended him near Tahlequah, Oklahoma, approximately 310 miles southwest of Jefferson City, they discovered around 400 rounds of ammunition and 15 firearms in his possession, as per court records obtained by The Kansas City Star

"Everybody, no matter what, is afraid of death," Hosier exclusively told The Mirror. "If they say they're not, something's wrong with them." Despite the conviction, Hosier insists on his innocence, pointing out the absence of concrete evidence linking him to the crime scene.

"I know I'm innocent. I was not there. I did not kill these people. Period. I don't know who did, but they're still walking around free," he asserted.

"I still don't understand how you can find a person guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and sentence a person to death when you have no witnesses to tie this person to the crime... no hard, physical evidence to tie me to this crime."

Angela, who had been romantically involved with Hosier before getting back together with her husband, reportedly became the object of Hosier's stalking post-breakup. Court documents reveal that a neighbour claimed Hosier had ominously stated, "If I can't have Angela, nobody can."

A chilling note was discovered in Hosier's vehicle among the firearms, warning, "If you are going with someone do not lie to them... Be honest with them and tell them if there is something wrong. If you do not this could happen to YOU! ! ... they can go off the deap end!"

Despite his claims of innocence and the absence of a concrete alibi for the day of the crime, Hosier's pleas for clemency or a reversal of his conviction were repeatedly dismissed. This includes a final appeal to Missouri Governor Mike Parson, who rejected it just over 24 hours before the execution.
