The late Dave Myers' wife Lili Orzac described him being posthumously given the freedom of his hometown, just months after his death, as a "huge honour".
The beloved Hairy Bikers star, from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria, passed away, aged 66, in February after being diagnosed with cancer. It's since been announced that the town council has honoured him following the news.
Barrow Town Council said on the award scroll: "We the Council posthumously grant the highest honour we can bestow to David, and is given in recognition of his service to the Barrow Community and the promotion of Civic Pride. We loudly applaud your valuable and sterling service whilst thanking you most sincerely."
His widow Lili, who received the award on her late husband Dave's behalf, expressed her surprise and pride to BBC Radio Cumbria recently. She reportedly told the outlet over the news: "I feel this is such a huge honour ... what a proud moment."
The tribute comes shortly after an estimated 20,000 people celebrated 'Dave Day' across the UK in memory of the late presenter over the weekend. On Saturday, a procession of bikers, led by Lili as well as Dave's co-star and pal Si King, are said to have spanned 36 miles from London to Barrow-in-Furness, where hundreds reportedly gathered at the Town Hall to welcome them.
Jonnie Irwin will record video messages for wife and kids to watch after he diesLili, who married Dave in 2011, is said to have shared at the event: "Dave was always a Barrovian through and through." She continued: "He wanted to put Barrow on the map and from beyond the grave, he has done it."
She also recently spoke about her husband's passing, revealing that she still feels his presence "everywhere". While appearing on ITV's Lorraine, she is quoted as having said: "Everybody who loses somebody in their lives misses them but there's a different layer because if I turn on the TV, he might be on. There are cookbooks in the house everywhere. He is everywhere. It just transpires and rolls on into this beautiful thing."
