In the early hours of June 13, 2023 pals Barnaby and Grace O'Malley-Kumar were knifed to death by paranoid schizophrenic Valdo Calocane.

The killer then fatally attacked granddad Ian Coates before taking off in his van and running down pedestrians.

The devastating crime is still incredibly raw, and Emma wiped away tears as she reflected on yesterday's poignant vigil that saw the street lined with university students.

Seeing Emma's anguish proved emotional for Kate, who exhaled deeply before comforting Emma with a hug.

Co-host Robert Rinder described Barnaby's death as "every parent's worst nightmare."

Emma said: "You say it's every parents worst nightmare, which it is, but Sinead O'Malley-Kumar says it's every parent's worst reality, and it is, no one can imagine until you're in.."

She continued: "I still don't really believe it."

Recounting the last message she received from Barnaby - the words "yes, yes" and an eye roll emoji in response to asking him to get a summer job - Emma said the "flippant" words have taken on a much greater meaning to her.

Scenes were somber as the Webber and O'Malley-Kumar families retraced the final steps of their 19-year-olds yesterday.

The walk came just hours after Barnaby's mum Emma revealed she knew something terrible had happened to her boy before getting the call.

The mum-of-two said her heart sank as she tracked his phone - and it was being taken to the police station.

Emma had spoken to her first-born just hours before he died - asking when he was coming home as she was looking forward to seeing him.

But tragically, he never made it.

Hours before the horror unfolded, Emma had text her 19-year-old - with the pair joking about hangovers and him getting a job.

She typed out: "When are you coming back? We’re looking forward to you coming back."

Barnaby cheekily replied: "I’ll be back Thursday or Friday, depending on my hangover."

Emma then told her boy he'd have to "get a job to earn some money over the summer to pay for all the things" he wanted to do.

To which Barnaby replied "yes, yes" with an eye roll emoji.

The 19-year-old had been out at PRYZM nightclub with pal Grace before they started walking home to their student accommodation.

The teens were snapped on CCTV happily chatting away just moments before they were attacked.
