SALLY Hawkins has become a fan favourite for her role in the Paddington films.

However, it has been announced that she is handing over the reigns to another actress for the third instalment.

Who is Sally Hawkins?

Sally Hawkins is an actress and is known for her various acting roles and being nominated for two Oscars.

She was born in London on April 27, 1976.

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, she started her career as a stage actress in productions such as Romeo and Juliet, Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Sally landed a supporting role in Vera Drake in 2004 and took the lead in Happy-Go-Lucky in 2008, before going on to win several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture and the Silver Bear for Best Actress.

She's also got multiple film credits to her name such as: Cassandra's Dream, Blue Jasmine, Made in Dagenham, Paddington, Maudie, Paddington 2, Godzilla, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Wonka.

She earned herself two Oscar nominated for Blue Jasmine and The Shape Of Water.

Sally played the role of Mrs Mary Brown in the Paddington films.

She is the mother figure who takes Paddington in along with the rest of her family.

It has been announced that Sally will not be returning to her role of Mrs Brown in the third instalment of the Paddington franchise.

The actress said she felt it was time to hand over the reigns to someone else.

However, it seems she didn't take the decision lightly as Sally told Variety: "I already greatly miss my on and off-screen family – the experience of making the first two films has truly been some of the best and most creative times I have had in the world of film.

"They both gave me so much joy.

Who will replace Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown in Paddington 3?

Mrs Brown will be played by Emily Mortimer in the third film.

However, I am, and will always be in love with Paddington's world.

Speaking about her replacement, Sally said: "For me it has felt the right time to hand the reins over to another, and one can't get much better than the truly wonderful Emily Mortimer, she is extraordinarily special.

"She will embody the essence of Mary Brown and yet make it utterly her own.

"However, I am, and will always be in love with Paddington's world."

Who is Emily Mortimer and what has she starred in?

Emily has some impressive acting credits under her belt.

These include: Howl's Moving Castle, Scream 3, Match Point, The Pink Panther, The Pink Panther 2, Lars and the Real Girl, Chaos Theory Harry Brown, Shutter Island, Cars 2, Hugo, Mary Poppins Returns and Relic.

In 2003 Emily won an Independent Spirit Award for her role in Lovely and Amazing.

She is also known for playing Mackenzie McHale in the HBO series The Newsroom.

Emily wrote the series Doll & Em and wrote and directed the miniseries The Pursuit of Love.

How to watch Paddington 3

Paddington in Peru will be released in UK cinemas on November 8, 2024 and in US cinemas on January 17, 2025.

June 2024 saw the first trailer released to the public.

The synopsis reads: "Paddington and his adopted family, the Browns, decide to visit his aunt Lucy in Peru, but circumstances lead them towards misadventures in the Amazon rainforest and mountains of Peru."
