A nightclub has been slammed by social media users after announcing "Martha of Baby Reindeer" will appear at an event.
Kasbah Nightclub in Coventry announced the woman claiming to be the "real life" Martha Scott depicted in the hit Netflix series Baby Reindeer will appear to take selfies and sign autographs in a "world exclusive" on Saturday (May 18).
Their Facebook announcement reads: "She will be signing autographs, taking selfies and she may also take a lucky reindeer home to hang her curtains!" Members of the public were horrified by the post as one user described it as "f***ed up", while another suggested it was "stupidity".
Some accused the club of giving the "real-life" Baby Reindeer character "exactly what she wants" while another suggested Kasbah Nightclub had made a "disappointing and strange" decision to host her. One former club-goer wrote: "I used to go to Kasbah/Colly twice a week. It's actually a decent club. I have no idea why they feel like they need to do this."
The incident left other users "very cross" on Twitter/X, with one writing: "Glamorising stalking. Am I missing something here or is this seriously messed up?" Richard Gadd wrote and starred in the series - which is based on Gadd's real-life experience of being stalked - as struggling comedian Donny Dunn, who comes across a woman named Martha, played by Jessica Gunning.
Netflix Baby Reindeer Martha star's life off screen and real accentTheir relationship takes a turn when she begins to stalk Donny relentlessly. The character Martha in the dramatisation ended up sending Donny more than 41,000 emails, 744 tweets, 100 pages of letters and 350 hours of voicemails.
The woman claiming to be the "real-life" Martha, who the Mirror is choosing not to name, was interviewed by Piers Morgan on his YouTube channel. She said she did have correspondence with Gadd but not of that volume. She told Piers: "We've had no apologies from Netflix or him, nothing. I mean, for someone who says he feels sorry for me, I've had no apology.
"My character seems to have smashed up a bar, sexually assaulted him in a canal, been to prison. There are a number of other allegations, and… That's not true." She also said she did not watch the show.
