THIS is the moment a group of grieving Brits scatter the ashes of their dead relative at a popular tourist beach at a Turkish holiday resort.

The unusual ceremony sparked a health alert in Marmaris after concerned swimmers reported it to the authorities.

Footage shows a big group of people standing knee-deep in water, on the Uzunyali beach, in an emotional tribute.

The Brits had travelled to the popular beach to scatter the ashes of a family member who died at sea, according to his last wishes.

The sunny hotspot was the deceased's favourite holiday spot.

Beachgoers reported that spreading the ashes of a deceased person into the water could be dangerous and contacted the authorities.

Health officials from the regional District Health Directorate. launched an investigation and took water samples from the sea at the Uzunyalı beach.

Cremation is illegal under Turkish law and there are limitations when it comes to bringing ashes into the country.

However, non-Muslims who die in Turkey can be buried in line with their own practices.

Sharing their experience on the Sue Ryder bereavement support charity forum, Robin explained how complicated it was to get permission to scatter his late wife's ashes.

They wrote: "My wife always loved Turkey from the first time we went there 40 years ago... so it was a no-brainer where she would want to be at rest.

"Unfortunately it's never that simple. It took me nearly two years to get permissions set up with UK airport, airline, Turkish airport, Turkish Government, Turkish Local Council Officials, Main Mosque Representatives, Turkish Police, and Local Port Authorities."

Last year a woman left revellers stunned when she poured her brother's ashes into a packed swimming pool at an Ibiza club.

Shocking footage showed the woman at Ushuaia beach hotel dancing barefoot in the pool before she sprinkled the powder around her and other revellers nearby.

The video, which has sparked fury online, was captioned "Just me sprinkling my brother about Ushuaia".

Most didn't hold back on sharing their disgust.

While one simply called it "dirty", another slammed her by simply asking "WTF?".

Others were confused and asked if the woman had been given permission from the hotel beforehand.

But someone else sympathetically added: "Fair play I wouldn't mind having my ashes scattered at Ushuaia".
