Tamara Ecclestone and her family have been left heartbroken following the death of her father-in-law David Rutland.

The daughter of Formula One mogul Bernie Ecclestone's husband Jay Rutland announced the sad news as he paid tribute to his beloved late father David on his Instagram page.

Jay wrote: "Absolutely heartbroken writing this. A day I always worried about, but much sooner than I ever expected.

"Dad, I love you and miss you more than you would ever realise. You loved my girls so much and I know how much joy it gave you seeing all the things they get up to.'

"So often you would call me in disbelief having seen the latest thing Fifi had accomplished. I am so incredibly sad that they won’t get to see you again.

"I think that’s what hurts the most. The little bond you already had with Riri makes my heart hurt.

"I am so glad we got to do the things we did together and I hope you knew how loved you truly were by all of your family."

He continued: "You were a unique man, not one for much emotion or feelings but when I saw your IPad screensaver was Fifi last night it made me laugh and cry at the same time.

"I now have an overwhelming sadness that you are gone but they say that grief is the price we pay for love," he penned followed by a red heart emoji.

He then added: "God bless Dad, you are with Mark now and we will all meet again one day X".

Jay's friends and fans commented on the post to share their condolences.

Jay previously lost his brother Mark 22 years ago. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Speaking of his brother's passing previously, he said: "I was 19 at the time and I still remember exactly where I was when I took the call and the sudden feeling of complete helplessness and overwhelming sadness.

"Life can be really s*** sometimes and it’s a reminder to spend time with the people you love the most. You just never know what’s around the corner. RIP Brother".

The couple share two daughters together eight-year-old Sophia, whom they nicknamed Fifi, and Serena, two.

Tamara is yet to publicly pay tribute to her late father-in-law on her Instagram feed.

In 2019, Tamara and Jay were victims of a burglary while on holiday in Lapland. Their Palace Green home was raided on December 13 2019.

Police said the gang responsible is believed to have carried out similar crimes against high-profile victims across Europe and had planned to commit further raids on the rich and famous in the UK.

While three men were jailed in November 2021, Ms Ecclestone said in July last year none of her family’s stolen possessions other than a single pair of earrings have been found since the burglary.
