Noel Gallagher has revealed the real reason he didn't join in with Manchester City's Poznan fan celebrations - he was nursing a supersonic hangover.

The Oasis songwriter created an iconic image when he stood watching the match at Fulham as all the other City supporters in the away end turned round and linked arms following a goal which sealed their victory.

The photos and video went viral on social media over the weekend. But asked about his lack of celebration, City fan Noel said: "So the City fans do this thing where they turn their back on the stadium and link arms and jump up and down together. It looks great on the TV and on the television when City were playing Fulham they panned to the City end and everyone was doing it except me as the one person facing the other way.

"The reason for that was because I'd been out on the Thursday night and I had developed a f**king spectacular hangover which on Saturday morning was still debilitating so I was not joining in, I was not in the mood. It was a 12.30 kick-off, I was not in the mood for behaving like a juvenile."

Discussing the fact he was the only one not to join in, he admitted even his friends and family were involved. Noel added: "Everyone in that end was doing it, one of my best friends, Mike Pickering who's old enough to know f***ing better, was doing it with my son who's 13, and there was a few like, 'Come on you miserable c**t' and I'm just like, 'No, I shan't, I shall sit this one out.'

"And anyway unbeknownst to me it was being wildly filmed by everyone with a camera, but there you go - quite an iconic picture, some of the pictures that I've seen have been f**king great actually.

"That footage went all round the world. I was getting messages from people in Australia and America saying, 'Ah, we saw you on the TV!'

Noel is so pleased with the imagery it created he said he already had someone working on a print for his wall. Speaking on pal Matt Morgan's podcast, he added: "Somebody's working on that as we speak. Yeah, I'd love a picture of that, the pictures I've seen have been pretty cool, the footage has been pretty cool actually, yeah well there you go, a moment in time - a very cool moment in time."

On the podcast this week Noel also told how he was open to an Oasis comeback - but only as holograms, after watching the Abba Voyage show which features the Swedish act as avatars.

Noel's beloved Manchester City will win the league this weekend if they win their home game against West Ham.
