It's likely many of us wish our legs were more toned.

And wait no more, as the 'secret' to perfect pins has apparently been revealed.

A super-ripped gym mum - who's known for sharing advice online - has shared the dos and don'ts of leg training. Shannon Collins, 44, AKA The Gym Nurse to her 150,000 Instagram followers, is known for sharing fitness advice online.

She is very open about her fitness journey, and how hard she's worked to transform her body. Recently, she admitted she's been committed to heavy leg training for seven years, even though she doesn't want them to get "bigger".

But, according to her, muscle, isn't the problem. Rather, people need to think about the fat layer, and how to target it.

Building muscle helps people to lose fat, so you shouldn't worry about looking "bulky". She said people shouldn't ditch weight lifting because they're worried about getting bigger.

Instead, it takes patience, and following certain steps to achieve the results you desire. It's all pretty simple when she breaks it down.

Writing on Instagram, Shannon said: "Please don’t stop lifting. I got this question in my Q&A and I get it often.

"The fear of getting bigger when we are trying to get smaller in certain areas or all over. Muscle will only help you on your journey to improving your body composition. Don’t stop lifting to just get smaller or worse yet to weigh less.

"If you are unhappy with the size of an area it is a body fat issue. It is so hard and time consuming to build muscle. You aren’t going to end up getting too big with muscle."

"She added: Over the years, I’ve had many clients convince themselves they have too much leg muscle, so they eliminate or majorly reduce the training, when they lose body fat they finally realize they didn’t have as much muscle as they thought they had. So back to building it they went.

"Years ago I hated my legs. But I never once thought to stop training them thank goodness. And years later I’m so proud of the shape I’ve given them combined with some short periods of calorie deficit.

"If you don’t ever train them, they will be shapeless and saggy when the fat comes off. Not a cute look in my opinion."

Years ago Shannon looked totally different, and you can see how far she's come by looking at her transformation snaps. She used to be curvier, and didn't focus on health and fitness, until she decided to make some big changes.

Now she's fit, toned and thriving, and people can't get enough of the advice she shares. Her followers even said it was the "best" post she's shared yet.

One person said: "Big dose of patience. Love this. 100% true." Another wrote: "Learning this firsthand! My legs are changing so much!"

A third replied: "I feel that way about my arms! I hold fat there and sometimes it makes me not want to train them heavy bc I don’t want them to get 'bigger'".

Meanwhile, a fourth commented: "Yes! I have some body fat on lower body I still want to get rid of but I am concentrating on building muscle. Patience is key... it takes time."
