WITH warmer weather (hopefully) around the corner, many people will be looking forward to spending more time in their gardens.

One woman shared how her outdoor space had no privacy whatsoever and was overlooked by a number of neighbours’ houses, until she came up with a solution.

Becky, who posts under @becky_brown_grand_ideas, shared how she transformed her garden by planting cherry laurel trees for privacy.

She wrote: “How we went from this - being completely overlooked with no privacy.

“We planted pleached cherry laurel trees.”

Becky shared how they had previously added five £250 cherry trees across the back fence, and some little olive trees in front.

She then showed her garden three years later, and showed how she had a “full privacy screen.”

The woman continued: “Privacy and we think they look great too.

“The fence and trellis are within 2m and there is no limit to the height of trees.

“Our neighbours haven’t minded though - the trees give everyone extra privacy.”

Many people were impressed at her privacy hack, and her video has racked up over 5,000 likes.

One person wrote: “This is what I will need … my son has bought the house next door to me.”

Another added: “Great job. Looks amazing.”

However, people were quick to comment about how the trees may affect the sunlight in neighbours’ gardens.

Becky replied: “No - it’s a south facing garden so the shadow from the trees is always in our garden not the neighbours.”

Others wondered if the trees had grown into other people’s gardens.

The homeowner responded: “No - there is a gap between the fence and the trees - the trees never overhang into the neighbours space.”
