Gudrun Ure, the actress who played Super Gran in the 1980s children’s show, has died aged 98.

Her portrayal of Granny Smith, who gained superpowers after being struck by a magic ray, won her legions of young fans.

She used her powers to protect the residents of Chiselton from a series of villains, most notably Iain Cuthbertson’s scheming Scunner Campbell.

The show featured guests including comics Billy Connolly and Spike Milligan, former Doctor Who Patrick Troughton and Manchester United legend George Best.
